oraKVLT
A downloadable game
The oraKVLT... an 11"x17" sandbox line crawler!
What is the oraKVLT?
In short, the oraKVLT is the distilled essence of a quest generator: you are a forever-hireling tasked with delivering or retrieving valuable and mundane goods and artifacts, escorting the weak, and vanquishing evil monsters. It has been designed to fit on a single 11" x 17" sheet of paper tri-folded into a brochure for ease of use. Created with solo play in mind, this document can also be utilized with a small group of players, each of whom control their own character.
How does the oraKVLT work?
Your character receives their instructions by rolling a fistful of dice. With another fistful of dice, your player character traverses the continent to reach the dungeon containing their quest objective. The dangers and encounters that occur in transit and the dungeon are determined by, again, rolling a fistful of dice. Once the quest is completed, use your newly acquired gains to prepare for the next quest!
Is it an add-on or standalone game?
The answer is: both! The oraKVLT works well with OSR-style rulesets with minimal modification, but core mechanics such as character creation are included to facilitate playing a game with no other documents.
You will likely notice that the oraKVLT is NOT the most flavorful document. For example: you are instructed to travel to nearby settlement "C"... what features does this settlement contain? This document does not answer such questions, meaning that you can use your imagination, supplements, and other sources of inspiration to provide character to the game world as you see fit. Think of the oraKVLT as a framework that helps playing a/the game easier.
Can I share the oraKVLT?
Players and aspiring game designers are encouraged to use the oraKVLT as a framework for modification. The project is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International. Assuming you provide attribution and like-licensing, you can use this document as a canvas with which to create your own scenarios and role playing games.
